The Depaiitment of Labour, coneiiiators and agents of Government ownhd merchants ships, laboured until a late liour in an effort to reach a settlement in the maritime dispilte b'efoi-e thfe strike deadline at midnight tomorrow. Barring a last minute hitch, there is no longer much doubt that a settlement is imminent on the Government proposed terms. 1
