BOLIVIAN COUP SMASHED
' Reeived Friday, 7.40 p.m. LAPAZ fBolivia), June 14. The Government has announced that a rovolutionary plot was smashed yes(erday and an undetermined nnrii'ber killed and wounded. The eoup oVas staged by a group of young eivilians and an army oflicer who used two aeroplanes in an attempt to bomb out police headquarters in the capital. The uprising is tlie third attempt against President Villa-roel 's reginie since he, a former army colonel hiinself, seized tlie presidenc.y in a coup irt 1943. A former newspaper editor, Guillernao Gutierrez, led the revolt. He was wounded and arrested. * The military leader was Major Illianes who fled. Firing began at 6 a.m. when police headquarters were attacked. Government forces' then came to tlie aid of the police and by inidday the revolt was {[uelled. President Villa-roel attributed tlie uprising to reaetionaries.
