He dismissed the appeal l)y Angus and Robertson against a conviction and fine of £10 imposed in the Central Court on April 24 for having published an obscene hook. The Judge aid that he believed that if the offeniling elements were removed, the book's value as a war story and novel would be inereascd. Passages relating to the siege of Tobruk aehieved great' heights in literary art, he said. It was greatly to be deploreil tliat the autlior who had no need to rely upon pornographv oi* lilasphemy to liold the attention of readers thought it neeessary or desirable to do both. The most objectionable part of the book described the reading in a cave by a soldier to his mates, of three plainly obscene stories from an American publication. i
