PEACETIME USE OF ATOMIC ENERGY
Received Thursday, 7 p.m. >. NEW 'YORK, June 13. ' The Arniy's Manhattan project which made atomic bombs, has announced a programme opening the way for the first peacetime use of atomic energy. Beneficial radioactive substances from the same uranium ovens which produced the ingredients for the homb, will be distributed to American hospitals, universities and scientific and industrial laboratories, and will be used to trace substances in the body, to study its functions and diseases, and possibly for tneclical treatments. The announcement added that the distribution may well have farreaching importance in peacetime research in physics, chemistry, metallurgy and medical sciences.
