GOVERNMENT GETS £4927

TAXES ON LEVIN RACES The Government's dividend from the Levin Racing ' Club's meeting at Otaki on Saturday was announced yesterday by the secretary (Mr. R. G. Romans) as being £4927 18s 8d. It is made up as follows: Totalisator duty, £2573 10s; dividend duty, £2251 10s; stakes duty, £23; and amusement tax, £79 18s 8d. In view of the fact that the club is donating Ihe proceeds of the meeting to the Levin and District R.S.A. Memorial Hall Fund, the Levin R.S.A. will make representations to the Minister of Firiance for a rebate of this taxation, or at least a portion of,it.
