FAREWELL EVENING

MR. C. EDWARDS HONOURED After seventeen years service on the New Zealand Railways, four years of which have been spent in Shannon, Mr. Colin Edwards has relinquished his position to take up farming in the Wairarapa district. On Saturday evening a number of friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edwards to bid them au revoir. During the evening, which was spent in varied entertainments, Mr. L. Beck said that the people of Shannon would miss very much the company of these two popular eitizens, and took the opportunity of wishing them every success in their future home at Featherston. Mr. J. Lucinsky also remarked upon the popularity of Mr. and Mrs. Edwards and congratulated them upon going into the noble and honourable profession of farming. Mr. Lucinsky expressed the feelings of all present when he wished them a very successfui future "down on the farm." Replying on behalf of Mrs. Edwards and himself, Mr. Edwards said that he was sorry to leave Shannon, where they had made so many good friends over the four years they had resided there. He thanked everyone very sincerely for the kindnesses shown them during their stay in the town, and voiced the hope that they would meet many of their old Shannon friends from time to time in Featherston. Mrs. Edwards, assisted by Mesdames Wright and Stratford, were hostesses for a delightful supper.
