MOTOR VEHICLE PARKING

ZONES WITH UNIFORM LIMITS WELLINGTON, May 24. In explaining the purpose of the amendment to the Traffic Sign Kegulations which were gazetted this week, the Minister of Transport, Hon. .T. () 'Brien, mentioned the ijidiscriminate parking of vehicles in business streets as the major cause of much of the traffic eongestion apparent today. "Local authorities are now recognising one of the first steps* to alleviate this eongestion is a reasonable but firm control over the use of streets as a regular parking place," said -Mr. O 'Brien. "At present in many towns the time limits for parking varv from street to street or even in different sections of the same street. Often there is no real attempt to see that the vehicle owner observes these rather complicated limits. This amendment. which provides for parking zones with uniform time lixnits, is designed to encouiage the adoption throughout the whole or a substantial part ot' the business areaj of a simple parking restridtion Avhich the driver can reasonably lie expected to Iearn and observe.
