Nevill, C.B.E., has been appointed Chief of the Air Staff, ! R.N.Z.A.F., in the rank of Air Vice iMarshal, in succession to Sir Leonjard Isitt. Mr. L. J. Wild, of feilding, was a. 'visitor to Levin yesterday. He was ' the guest speaker at the Levin ^ Rotary Club's .weekly luncheon, 'taking as his subject the objects of ;Rota.ry. Another visiting Rotarian ;at the luncheon was Mr. L. Abrajham, of Hamilton. j The Dominion president of the W.D.F.U., Mrs. Elliott, will visit j Levin on Thursday to give an ad- ! dress to • district members and | friends on the work carried out by ; the division. Before her election as Dominion president in 1945, Mrs. , Elliott served both on the Dominion 1 Advisory Board and as a Dominion j vice-president. The death of Mr. R. J. Foss, _ a Iformer headmaster of the Levin 1 School, was referred to by the Mayor (Mr. H. B. Burdekin) at last 1 evening's meeting of the Levin i Borough Council. His Worship said the late Mr. Foss had exercised_an influence on the lives of the young ! people of the town and district j which was hard to measure, and the speaker had been struck by the respect and affection which his i former pupils bore for him. Levin | and district had been enriched by !the dece.ased gentleman's presence jin it, and his place would be hard to fill. The meeting stood in silence ; as a mark of respect to the memory | of the late Mr. Foss. •
