TYRE RATIONING MAY BE LIFTED
WELLINGTON, May 12. Commenting today on the Sydney message iudicuting the possibility of motor tyro rationing being lifted in iVustraiia during the second lialf of tliis year, tlie Minister of Supply, Hou. D. G. Sullivan, said he most sincerely hopeti the statemeut would prove correct. Unfortunately similar hopes held and expresscd in tlie past rcgardiug tvros and other things 111 short supply, had failed to materialise. Every possible cil'ort was being continuousJy made to obtain .siiilicient supplies of pctrol and tyres to lif'f cationing. The Minister added tliat lie was" liopcful about pctrol though not certain, but hc was a good deal more doubtful about tyrcs. However, it was very sure that wlicn the position warrantcd Ihe Jirting of tyro rationing in Australia, the same situation would enable the Jifting of rationing in New Zealand at the same timo, wlienever that was.
