MIRACULOUS ESCAPE
WOMAN DRAGGED 110 FEET BY TRAIN A miraculous escape from more scrious conscquences was e.xperieneed by Mrs. Lila Pollard, of Havelock. Nortli,' wlien she fcll from a train pulliug into the Palmerston North railway' station on Saturday evening, and was dragged along the piutform for 110 feet before falling ciear. Mrs. Pollard and her hupband, a teaeher at Herewith Private School at Havelock North, were iiassengers on the Gisborne- Wellington express which arrived at Palmerston North at 7.47 p.m., 27 minutes late. The train slowed down on approaching the main platform, where it usually stops, and Mr. Pollard allghted. Mrs. Pollard was f'ollowing her liusband, but the train was I liagged on further down. the platform by a porter, and was still in motion as the unt'ortunate pas.senger. attempted to step 011 to the platform. Her foot slipped and she was pulled along by the train. Mrs. Pollard liad tlie presence of mimi to hang on to the handrail and pull lier feet up. After being dragged for 110 feet, she f'ell clear. Alrs. Pollard was taken to the Palmerston North Public Hospital where she was found to be suifering from notliing worse than severe shock and bruises. Her condition last night was reported us satisfaetory.
