- HARD FORWARD GAME In a battle for senior rugby honrurs at the Shannon Domain on Saturday afternoon, Shannon were iuccessful in out-witting and outpointing the Otaki fifteen by 26 points to nil in a dashing forward I game. The Game Otaki kicked off and the play kept in midfield for some minutes until Aitchison found the line inside Otaki's twenty-five. From the lineout S. Chester gained possession and forced his way over to seeure the first points for the horne side. The kick .at goal failed. Shannon kept up the attack and were awarded a free kick inside Otaki territory, but Pedersen's attempt at goal failed fo reach the cross bar. From a kick by Enoka, D. Cole started a good up-field run with Fuller and S. Chester in suppcrt, the latter gathering up the ball to go over and score his second try. Mortimer, the Shannon captdin, ccnverted, making the score Shannon 8, Otaki 0. With the points against them, Otaki took play right into Shannon ground and were on the Shannon line for fully five minutes. The visitors were on the verge of scoring, with Shannon forwards fighting a great defensive battle,when the whistle sounded for hralfoime without change in the score. After the interval, Otaki took play into Shannon territory again and were forcing hard when Pedersen cleared with a grand line kick. ' The visitors , again brought play into home territory, but Rahihi kicked j well upfield and, with a smart follow through, nicely caught the j Otaki full-.back in possession. From : a- scrum, Shannon received the leather and it travelled the full length of the back line for Aitchison 1 to go over for a fine try, about fivei feet in from the side line. Morti- ; mer, who was kicking very well, j converted from a -difficult position. i The Shannon pack were -now on the ! attack, and from a loose ruek! Campbell went over to bring the! score to Shannon 16, Otaki 0. As play progressed. Shannon was; pxoving itself the fitter team, and had play down in the Otaki: twenty-five right from the kick. ; From a line out Ellison fought his, way over to score more points for the home side. Mortimer again : added the.i.extra twp points. From. the kick-off Shannon burst through -[ for S. Ghester to come through; nicely to complete his hat trick for' ""he day. Mortimer converted. ! Shannon kept on pressing the attack until the final whistle, wnen t the score was Shannon 26, Otaki 0. | Mr. J. A. Zuppicich had control of ! .he game.
