LEVIN FIRE BOARD

MR- F. E- PARKEBr RE-ELtlCTEH AS CHAIRMAN 1 The annual and" quarterly 'meetings of the Levin Fire Board were ■held in Levin on Thursday evening. " Those present were: Messrs. F. E. Parker (chairman), F. P. Walkley (secretary) , J. C. Milnes, A. °H. Clerke, E." Hayes and F. Desmond. Before the meeting commenced the brigade, under Superintendent •W. S. Salmons, paraded and ,was , - inspected by members of the board., The chairman's annual report was read and adopted and also the^ • statefnent of -accounts.'for' the yearended htarch 31, 1946; - Supply of Hose . Upon the reading of the annual report of the-- brigade- superintendent (Mr. S:aIm,ons.) •, the question of the supply of ho,se was raised-. The superintendent asked that the. board communicate "v;ith the Public: Works Department in regard to the supply of 1.QA0 feet of hose, which had been promised some time agou The present available quantity of hose would' not be sufficient with the continuance of a dry spell, andi with the growth of the borough. ■Mr. Parker informed the boardi that the recent forest fire's" hadi taken up practically all stocks of hose in the North Island. A^ter further discussion, it was decided to write to the Inspector of Fire Brigades, Mr. R. Girling Butcher, about the matter; ..

Election of- Chairman .. . The election of a chairman- fof the ensuing year was held, resulting in the re-election of Mr." Parker,: who) received the congrafulations of members. In a short speech, he1 thanked .them for their co-oper'a-tion and service. " ■ General Matters . The chairman then referred- to. • the need for improvement of the living quarters on the station, Upon discussion it was decided- to.1 carry out these improvemehts: " Estimates of expenditure for the year to 'end March 31, 1947, were made, totalling £583 14s ld. These estimates allow .for a supply of new uniforms to the brigade, which is ipt dire need of these, the roll having increased to nineteen with the return of service members., After the business of the ordinary quarterly meeting had been attended to, the meeting .closed.
