LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

OTAKI DOMAIN ! ' •" L 7 L- ; Sir^in -"repjy > to /'No Idiot" would ehdeavour to point oue to him that the proposal for the fence qn the domain did n'ot! liave the 'support of the Otaki Cricket Club. It was just a .personal suggestion from the oresident of a sister- club in the

saine towh's'hip,' with' the' idea of co-operation and . goodwill. I do apologise to the six spectators who are unable to encroach on the field, and I did say'that approximately twenty feet would not make much differenee to the cricket boundary on the sand side. In a match it is an even break for uoth teams, snd many grounds in New Zealand have much shorter boundaries. From a football angle, the fence should undoubtedly be erected. Quite possibly it might keep more than six people off the neld. Again the H.R.F.U. may insist on the erection of the fence, and iz is safe to assume that the duty of the council is to have the ground and its amenities in tip-top condition. Ihe fence was there before and "No Idiot" did not complain, nor did the council, nor did the . Otaki Cricket Club, nor did the six spectators. The suggestion that the . two football clubs should assist the council in its,work,-by building1 and pulling dowh fences), reminds- . me of the song "Don't "Fence me in."

Now, take the ridiculously low subscription of 2s 6d. Playihg members of clubs in country districts have much higher travelling expenses than those in a metropolitan area. A game of football is without doubt one of the cheapest forms of entertainment in this country for one shilling. People like "No Idiot" enjoy eighty minutes of our national game, and still moan about a fence. Take it from me, "No Idiot," the Otaki Football Club is a very financial one. Anyone interested in sports in general would naturally do his best to assist any other club. When you attack any named person through the Press, at least sign your name to vour letter. Yours etc,,

Otaki, April 15. "
