BIRTHDAY PARTY

MRS. J. BEST ENTERTAINED On the occasion of her birthdav Mrs. J. Best was the guest at a social afternoon at the Methodist Parsonage, Otaki. Mrs. Best had attained her 86th year and her mental powers are not abated and she is remarkably well considering the length of life with its vicissitudes. Members of the Ladies' Guild and Missionary Auxiliary 'warmly congratulated the guest, and expressed pleasure at being present at such an unique occasion. As an old resident of the district, Mrs. Best laid the foundation stone of the Te Horb Church, and has since given untiring devotion and service. As a lover of flowers it is her constant joy' to beautify the Rouse of God. Her influence in the district has been goo.d, ajnd her family and friends have been g'uided and blessed. As a member of Otaki Ladies' Guild, the passing of years has endeared her to the-.hearts, of many. - - Mrs. S. Keen spoke on behalf' of the guild and Mrs. W. J. Drew on behalf of the Auxiliary. Mrs. Radcliff presented her .with a bouquet and also one to Mrs. Drew. .» ■ During the afternoon bowls were played under the Birection ' of Mrs. Jense'n and elocutionary items were given by Mrs. Harrington.. • Afternoon tea was served, after which a hymn was sung/^Mrs. Drew being the accompanist. t ' The honoured guest suitably replied and expressed her joy kt.tht privilege of being allowed to servi her church.
