LEVIN RED CROSS SOCIETY

FIFTH ANNUAL MEETING . The fifth annual meeting of the Levin Red Cross. Society was held on Tuesday in the Century Hall, with the president (Miss H. K Bowen) 'in the chair. In her annual report, the president mentioned the loss by death of some of the society's most valued workers. and others who had been

ever ready to give their support and advice when required. The work during the year just ended had been faithfully carried out by the several committees, and the sewing guild had rne't regularly under the capable leadership of Mrs. F. Wilson. Mrs. Hesp had been reluctantty compelled to resign the secretaryship, and Mrs. Porter had kindly consented to act and had capablj* filled the position. The next-of-kin parties during the year had been a great success and were much appreciated. The garden party held in Mr. and Mrs. Parton's grounds was a fitting and happy ending to this part of the society's activities. Miss Bowen then thanked all those who had-given assistance during the vear.

The balance sheet was then read showing that the society's revenue during the year amounted t6 £21 10s 8d, made up of subscriptions £8, donations £4 and sundries £9 10s 8d. The payments totalled £139 17s 4d, the principal items being' rent £37 10s, quota to centre £20 and a refund to women's club £45 10s 3d. The election of officers resuited as follows: — Patron: Mr. H. B. Burdekin; president:* Miss H. E. Bowen; vice-presidents : Mesdames Hunter, McKenzie, H. Webb, W. S. Lett, F. W. Wilson and W. J:, Blake; secre-tary-treasurer ; Mrs. H. Parton; assistant secretary: Miss Berretti; auditor: Mr. F. Nicholson. Mrs. F. W. Wilson gave an interesting report on the work of the committee entrusted to make up parcels and arrange for garments to be repaired, altered or cleaned, as was necessary. The fact that 1090 garments were sent to headquarters was an indication of the amount of labour done by the Levin braneh.
