PATRIOTIC WORK
SHANNON DISTRICT COMMITTEE At a meeting of the Shannon and District Patriotic Committee, held in the copncil chambers on Wednesday evening, it was .deeided to wind up the patriotic committees and go for the constitution and functions of welfare committees. It was deeided that a committee of five be set up at each centre, Opiki, Tokomaru and Shannon, and that an executive of five be appointed consisting of one Opiki representative, one Tokomaru, two Shannon and one R.S.A. representative. It was also deeided that- until the > respective committees have been elected the present patriotic committee should carry on, and the secretary make arrangements with the zone centre regarding personnel. A vote of thanks was extended to the ladies of the district for the magnificent eifort in making up comforts. Mrs. Bovis (Shannon) , Mrs. Guy (Tokomaru) and Mrs. Wilde (Opiki) were asked to extend to their gallant band of workers the committee's thanks. The secretary expressed the hope that early in April he would be able to report on what arrangements were being made at the zone centre at Levin.
