RUGBY FOOTBALL
PROMISING SEASON NEAR Within a few short weeks the curtain will rise on the 1946 rugby season in the Horowhenua district. Recently the various clubs have been holding their annual meetings and the enthusiasm evinced augurs well for the first season to be faced without the cloud of war. The Horowhenua Rugby Union's annual meetlng takes place at Levin on Tuesday, March 26, when delegates from all clubs will attend to choose the administration for the approaching year and make- the various arrangements necessary for competition games. Though its ranks were seriously depleted of manpower during the war years, rugby in this district was not forced into recess, but in the early stages of the war its following decreased very considerably. Last season, however, with a large number of men back from overseas ■and released from New Zealand camps, the standard of play was the highest for many years, particularly in the junior grade, where the representatives turned on some fine displays of football. A great rise in nublic interest was also evident in the latter part of the season. and the one now approaching should see the game back on its feet and well established again. , ,
