FROM THE GOLF LINKS
PREPARATIONS FOR SEASON A GLIMPSE AT PROSPECTS The annual meeting of the Levin Golf Club was well attended, some 35 members being present, and from the enthusiasm manifested, a very enjoyable season from the golfing view point seems to be assured. Some 20 new members have already been elected to membership and as the opening day is not far off, a record number of players will no doubt start the coming season. Many members have continued playing throughout the summer months, and the fairways and greens have been regularly cut so that the remaining club members will now be able to start their new season witfy the links in first elass order. An energetic and willing committee has spent many hours on the links, doing many odd jobs that always seem to eventuate during the off season, and the efforts of members of it will no doubt prove extremely benefieial to the club in general. The Levin Borough Council, through its overseer, Mr. E. Lycette, and his able staff, has also co-operated, and has commenced clearing drains etc., a forward movement which will refceive the blessings of those unforJunates who regularly visit the drains when the winter elements are in full force. Men members will soon be receiving copies of the match programme for the season, and on reading an actual copy the writer considers the match committee has done an excellent job in arranging such a varied programme. With the advent of Saturday morning closing, many more members will now be able to participate, if necessary, at any time in all day Saturday play. A new system of running the drs.w for each match day's play will also be in vogue, commencing with the first official competition, and should dispense with undue delay for starting players on their rounds. Should numbers warrant an Easter tournament being held, the committee will endeavour once again to re-establish this popular trial tourney. If this eventuates. a spiendid start for competition play should pave the way for a bumper season.
After a lapse of five years, the senior and junior championships will again take pride of place in competition play, and with so many newcomers in the iocal ranks, the winners of both grades , should find'"" 'th'at1 "thfe'i'r " ulti'mate ' winning will prove to be iheir hardest over many years, in whatever company they have been accustomed to. From reports to hand regarding the supply of golf balls, the Golf Council in its latest circular to affiliated clubs advises that it is expecting supplies of re-capped balls at an early date, but nothing is yet definite. As the writer interids to further these weekly golfing notes from xime to time throughout the approaching season, local golfing enthusiasts will in the future be kept fully ' up-to-date regarding local doings through these columns, when weekly scores and results will be published.
