MARKET REPORT
Messrs. Townsend and Paul, Ltd., fruit and produce merchants, Wellington, report that supplies of stone fruits are now dwindling, and consequently all quality lines have been keenly sought. Flower auctions have again been well attended, seasonal blooms being placed to advantage. Most varieties of vegetables, due to the extreme dryness, have also advanced in value, while supplies of poultry to hand have met with ready sale, values, if anything, showing an improvement upon last week's quotations. Quotations are: — Apricots, 8/-, 13/2; greengages, 8/6, 18/-; nectarines, 10/- 22/-; peaches, 9/-, 12/2; plus containers; grapefruit, Meyer Iemons and raspberries at ceiling; tomatoes (best), ceiling price, (others) 4/-, 10/6, ½-case selling readily; blackberries, l/-; 1/4½ lb. ; passion fruit, 8/-, 14/- ¼-case; beans (according to variety),. 2d, 9d; peas, 4d, 6d lb; cabbage, kumeras, parsnips, potatoes, pumpkins, swedes at ceiling ; cauliflowers keen demand ; rhubard, 5/-, 9/-; spinach, 9/-, 15/-; marrows, 8/-, 11/case. Hens (heavy); 7/-, 9/-, (light), 3/6, 6/6; roosters, 4/-, 6/6; cockerels (according weight) , 2/6, 11/6; pullets (best), 10/-, 15/6, (others), 4/-, 7/6; ducks (young), 5/6, 10/-, (old) , 3/-, 6/-.
