Table tennis surprise

Avonside II had a surprisingly easy win over a solid Linwood combination to maintain its lead after the latest round of the A grade summer inter-club table tennis competition. Michael Warren and Brian Wilson, both unbeaten during the evening, helped guide Avonside II to an 11-1 victory. Their clubmates in the Avonside No. 1 team also had an easy win into second place with John Richards and the Entwistle brothers proving far too strong for their opponents. Riccarton 11, the previous front-runner, also had a good night thanks to another steady performance by the “choppers,” John Armstrong and Alan Alabaster, who won three singles each. In the other match the young Blair Lockhart was unbeaten for High School Old Boys Riccarton. Results:— High School Old Boys Riccarton 9, Riccarton I 3 Bruce Lockhart lost to G.
