Max Miller suspended

The Blenheim horseman, Max Miller, was suspended until after February 19 for causing interference in the Raffles Hotel Trot at the Marlborough Trotting Club’s meeting on Monday. Miller, the driver of Westham, had moved in when improving at the 600 m, causing Dougal’s Delight to break. Following the running of the El Patron Handicap, the starter, Mr Patchett, was questioned regarding an attendant being at Steven John’s side when the tapes were released. After hearing his explanation he was informed that all attendants must be clear of horses when the barrier is released. Robert Dunn, the driver of Tumahu Tiger in the first division of the Blenheim Print Mobile Pace, was fined $5O for allowing his horse to strike a sulky wheel and breaking when at the rear with 300 m to run. The connections of Otoole, which hung badly during the running of the non-tote event and ran out sharply on the home turn, striking the wheel of the eventual winner, April Byrd; and Ngaru Nui, which raced fiercely, then broke causing several runners to take evasive action in the Mills Toyota Mobile Pace, were both declared ineligible to start in a penalty-bearing event until they have trialled to the satisfaction of the stipendiary stewards.
