C. Dowling out of action

PA Hamilton The Te Rapa jockey, “Baz” Dowling, is likely to be out of action for several weeks. Dowling was admitted to hospital after riding at Te Rapa on Monday and was expected to undergo surgery last evening for the removal of a steel pin from an ankle.

The pin was inserted in Dowling’s ankle following a fall in training several months ago.

Dowling said yesterday he thought it likely that it would be 10 days or so following the operation before stitches would be removed. He had no idea, however, how long it would be after that before he would be permitted by his doctors to ride again.
