Africans take first three
NZPA-AP Tokyo Juma Ikangaa, of Tanzania, broke away in the final three kilometres to capture the Tokyo international marathon yesterday in a Japanese record time of 2 hours, eight minutes 10 seconds. African runners also took second and third
places in the annual 42.195 km (26 mile 385 yard) event, while the world record holder, Carlos Lopes, of Portugal, dropped out before the half-way point. Second place went to Belayenh Densimo, of Ethiopia, and Abebe Mekonnen, also of Ethiopia, was third.
