U.S. fishing expedition
PA Wellington New Zealand fisheries will be well represented at fishing industry exhibition, in the United States, Sea Fare ’B6, when it opens in Los Angeles today. Five export companies would be attending the exhibition, said the Trade and Industry Department. The companies, Sealord Products, Ltd, New Zea-
land Seafood Marketing; Seafresh Fisheries (N.Z.), Ltd, Fletcher Fishing, Ltd; and Shellfish Farms, Ltd, had received financial support from the department under its assisted trade fair programme, the department. Fishing and shellfish exports to the United States had experienced phenomenal growth in recent years, with their
value up from $11.2 million in 1979-80 to $194.2 million in the last financial year.
“With American awareness of the nutritional value of fish now coupled with a growing appreciation of the quality and variety of the New Zealand product, the prospects for continued high export growth look good,” the department said.
