Anti-rat campaign in China
NZPA-AFP Peking Some 540,000 rodents have been killed in the Shanghai area since the authorities launched an anti-rat campaign in December, the “China Daily” reported. The English-language newspaper said that 150,000 had been killed during this period in the eastern city itself. The s Health Ministry said iast month that two billion ; rats had been killed throughout China in the last three years, but three billion more remained. It said that the rodents ate more than 15 million tonnes of grain a year, which would be enough to feed 50 million people.
