Veteran tennis
John Dickie’s and John Duggan’s win in the men’s over-50 doubles was a feature of the United Lawn Tennis Club’s eleventh annual veterans’ tournament Dickie and Duggan beat Ross Hawker and Viv Hargreaves in the final in two sets. They had earlier disposed of the defending champions, Lindsay Blackwell and Bob Pattinson, in three. The event was the forerunner of a veterans’ tennis circuit that will start in Marlborough this week-end. The ensfetag Canterbury andJNelson tournaments will lead up
to the National tournament in Christchurch next month. Winners of the United tournament were.— Women: 40 and over, Carol Pearce and Pam Morris; 48 and over, Pat Cosgriff and Lynn Fitzgerald. Men: 40 and over, Richard Blunt and Don Preston; 50 and over, John Dickie and John Duggan. A grade mixed doubles: Don Preston and Judy Davidson; runners-up, Richard Blunt and Pat Duckmanton.
