Water safety
Sir, — Reporter’s Diary contained an item concerning two television personalities being filmed canoeing in the Waimakariri Gorge while not wearing appropriate safety equipment. At a time when the Water Safety Council is spending thousands of dollars in advertising, trying to curb the vast number of drownings in New Zealand, this type of negligent, apathetic, she’ll-be-right attitude towards water safety is not really suitable for public screening, especially considering the vast following among young people of at least one of the two. — Yours, etc., TERE LOWE. February 5, 1986.
