Self-help groups
Sir, — I was delighted to read that Auckland men who are cursed with violence, usually towards their families, have formed self-help groups to try to overcome their problem. I hope a similar group will soon start in Christchurch or preferably, has already started. Self-help groups have helped disturbed people, bereft people, alcoholics, incest victims and the handicapped.
They are almost becoming the “in thing.” Good luck to all men and women with this horrible problem. I only hope they will learn to express and so discharge their rage on useless and inanimate objects, not just talk it out.
— Yours, etc., SUSAN TAYLOR. February 5, 1986.
