Cost of concert
Sir, —Saturday’s delightful Summer Pops concert by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra must have been most depressing for the musicians as they looked out upon a sea of empty seats. The programme would have appealed to a wide range of tastes, but $l6 a seat is beyond the reach of most families. Is it not time the B.C.N.Z. descended from its ivory tower and made the N.Z.S.O. generally accessible? Selling tickets at a reduced rate one or two hours before the concert, as I understand is the custom overseas, would enable a much wider
public appreciation, and unoccupied seats would be filled. — Yours, etc., R. M. NELSON. February 3, 1986.
