Dogs on beaches

Sir, —I wish to complain about the number of dogs roaming Christchurch beaches. While walking along Sumner foreshore with my daughter last Sunday, we must have encountered at

least 40 dogs, the majority of which were not on leashes, making a general nuisance of themselves. Perhaps dog lovers do not mind having these animals jumping on them, chasing and frightening their children, and worst of all leaving their disgusting litter everywhere, but I, and I am sure many others, do. There is a clear sign on the beach front indicating that dogs are not permitted on the beach. Why do not the wardens responsible for patrolling these areas ensure that this law is enforced? —Yours etc.,

MARGARET K. MCGOLDRICK. January 28, 1986.
