Ryan also bows out
PA Auckland Kevin Ryan will not seek selection in the New Zealand team for the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, even if he betters the 2hr 14min marathon qualifying standard on Saturday. Ryan, aged 37, said yesterday that the Auckland race — his twenty-sixth
— will be his last at international level. He said he had bettered 2hr 15min in about 15 marathons. His best time was 2:11 when finishing sixth in the 1978 Boston event. In the last two Commonwealth Games he has finished fourth (1978) and fifth (1982).
