S.A.N.R.O.C. conference
Sir, — Any defamatory statements or resolutions coming from the S.A.N.R.O.C. conference in Londonshould i be treated with the comtempf they deserve. Considering the appalling human rights records of the majority of coun-
tries represented at the conference, it is hypocrisy for them to identify the United States, Britain and New Zealand as villains. I do not support South Africa’s racial policies, but I do believe in justice. If the same scale was used to measure apartheid against other transgressions of human rights, South Africa would come way below many countries, including the Soviet Union, Iran, most black African states, South and central American countries, the Eastern Bloc, China and half of Africa and ad infinitum! If sporting bans were fairly applied on this basis it would mean the end of international competition, including the Olympics. Maybe that would not be a bad thing. It’s a complete farce at present anyway. — Yours, etc. H. M. TAIT. July 1, 1983.
