Town Hall manager resigns

The manager of the Christchurch Town Hall, Mr J. D. Carson, has resigned after only 13 months in the position. Mr Carson took up his Town Hall appointment after retiring from the New Zealand Army. He was the founder of the Army Band and was its director until its retirement. A noted musician and well known conductor before he joined the Army in 1961, Major Carson led the band to international renown after performing at the 1974 Commonwealth Games in Christchurch, for which he received the M.B.E. Three years later he was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal. Mr Carson, who has resigned for persona) reasons, will leave the Town Hall at the end of next month.
