Champion’s son seeking title

NZPA New York Marvis Frazier, son of the former world heavyweight champion, Joe Frazier, has signed to fight the present W.B.C. titleholder, Larry Holmes, a promoter, Murad Muhammed, has said. Frazier is unbeaten in 10 professional fights. The champion had been told by the W.B.C. that he must sign before the end of July, to make a mandatory defence against No. 1 ranked Greg Page. If he does not, he could have title recognition withdrawn. Holmes has sent a telegram to the W.B.C. for extension on the mandatory defence, Muhammed said. But both Holmes and Muhammed said the fight against Frazier will take place even if the W.B.C. withdraws title recognition. The fight will be scheduled for 15 rounds and will be held in September or October, Muhammed said. Frazier is trained by his father, who is also his comanager.
