Clubs to decide
Christchurch women's bowls clubs will be able to decide for themselves whether they have open or drawn championships next summer. A decision to this effect was made at the recent annual meeting of the Christchurch centre. For many years it has been mandatory for all teams to be drawn from a list of available players. There has, however, been considerable opposition, particularly from the larger
town clubs, to this method in recent seasons. The centre also decided to introduce an open singles tournament next summer. There will be a mid-week day of section play in late January and the event will be finalised on two Saturdays in March. The zone three elimination, involving Christchurch, Buller, Nelson, West Coast and Marlborough, of the national inter-centre tournament will be held in Christchurch early in December.
