Visiting wrestlers too experienced
A team of American wrestlers from Pennsylvania convincingly beat the Canterbury A and B teams at a competition in Rangiora recently. The best local performance came from David Mangnall, Canterbury A, and Boyd Brinsdon, Canterbury B. but generally the experience of the visiting side, one of the best teams to visit New Zealand, was too much. Results (Canterbury A names first):— 48kg: Paul Landreth lost to Bruce Cafurello, fall round 1. 50kg: Brett Hunter lost to Larry Stewart, fall round 2. 53kg: Terry Wakefield lost to Larry Knopsnyder, fall round 1; Brent Ellerm lost to Bill Brock, 8 points to 5. 59kg: David Mangnall beat Brien Warshel, 9-4. 60kg: Ivan Tuuta beat Scott Pyshnik, 11-6. 65kg: Craig Richardson beat Andy Stager, fall round 1. 70kg:
Wayne Tewnion lost to Rick Yahner, fall round 1. 76kg: Graeme Petrie lost to 800 Waynik, fall round 1. 78kg: Ray Metcalfe lost to Bruce Wallace, fall round 1. 83kg: Bob Jones lost to Eric Groenendaal, fall round 1.
