Eye incident probe
PA Auckland Auckland’s police chief, Assistant Commissioner B. W. Gibson, has ordered an investigation into the incident in which a man’s eye was allegedly bitten during a rugby league match in Auckland. “I believe it is desirable in the wider public interest for the police to investigate
the matter,” Mr Gibson said. A Mangere East player has been suspended from the game for seven years as a result of the alleged attack. Mr Gibson said that the victim, Sven Guttenbeil, of the Ponsonby-Maritime club, would be interviewed during the investigation.
