Ford in front
Ford New Zealand gained the lion’s share of a depressed May new car market with 23 per cent, while Todd Motors and N.Z.M.C. were next with 17.3 and 14 per cent respectively. Toyota (11.9 per cent), General Motors and Nissan (10.2 each) and Mazda (6.8) were next.
Ford’s Cortina and Laser occupied first and second spots on the 10 top sellers’ list with 596 and 523 regis-
trations respectively. Next were Honda Civic (484), Toyota Corolla (283), Mitsubishi Mirage (268), Mazda 323 (258), Mitsubishi Sigma (254), Holden Commodore (253), Honda Accord (245) and Nissan Sunny (240). Although station waggon versions of the Cortina will remain on the market until early 1984, the saloon is about to be replaced by the Japanese-origin Telstar in July.
