B.M.W. doing well
Munich-based B.M.W. aims to sell more than 400,000 cars for the first time this year. More than half of them will be the new 3 Series cars which were the subject of appraisal in this column recently. A mere 15 years ago, B.M.W. was very much among the also-rans in the international car market, as it struggled to sell 100,000
cars a year. Now the company sees no need to add new models to its range and has no intention of doing so to win over new buyers, according to a company spokesman. However, he did add that the West German company would be introducing new engines, including a very smooth turbo-charged diesel.
