More freeze complaint inquiries

PA Wellington The Trade and Industry Department investigated 123 complaints of breaches of the price freeze in the week ended June 22 and found 107 of the prices charged were in order. The Acting Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Allen, said yesterday that during the same week the department received 106 complaints and 41 hardship applications. In the same period, seven hardship applications were declined, one was withdrawn and 26 approved. Increases approved include: Contrafed Publishing Company, Ltd, Wellington, an average increase of 10 per cent in advertising rates in the “Contractor.” General Lee Weatherware, Ltd, Christchurch, an increase of 10 per cent for clothing and bags. Peter O’Gara Engineering, Ltd, Auckland, an increase of 35 per cent for engineering products. Mr W. J. Parsons, Wanganui, an average increase in horse shoeing fees of $2.17. Pieters Model Agency, an increase of 9 per cent in modelling course fees. Pinewood Woodcrafts, Ltd, Palmerston North, an increase of 10 per cent on woodware products. Pukekohe Golf Club, Auckland, an increase of 20 per cent in green fees. Snoopy Enterprises 1982, Ltd, an increase on food items ranging from 15 to 40 per cent. Sun Valley Foods, Ltd, Auckland, various increases for nuts averaging 6.5 per cent. William Thom, Ltd, Christchurch, an increase of 5 per cent for glass products. Y.M.C.A., Christchurch, an increase of 10 per cent in boarding fees.
