Council to pinpoint child-care problems

PA Wellington The newly formed Social Advisory Council is to try to pinpoint overlooked areas of child care, the chairman, Mr L. W. Gandar, has said. Mr Gandar told the annual meeting of the Federation of Voluntary Welfare Organisations that the council would examine children for undetected sight and hearing problems, children in institutions, and those who were abused and neglected. * The council was aware it ; would not break new ground 'in investigating those areas .but -it wanted to, bring together the wealth of information already produced. lsew Zealand’s

vice system would also be investigated to see how socially and financially successful it was with a view to possible restructuring. A report including recommendations for strengthening or altering aspects of the present system would be made to the Minister of Social Welfare, Mr Young.
