Telethon
Sir, — I find the reason given for this year’s Telethon appeal to be an admission that the people or Government of New Zealand cannot take care of the elderly, the harassed, or the abused, other than by charitably means. Instead of
condemning and doing something about the social disintegration of just about every aspect of the New Zealand way of life, we are asked to support it, give generously and ease our social and moral conscience by making our pledge bigger than those of our neighbours. I think it will be 24 hours that no New Zealander should be proud of. — Yours, etc., BARRY STEWART. June 23, 1983.
