Ambulance times
Sir,—The Rangiora sub-centre of the St John Ambulance Association is concerned about the report ("The Press”, June 22) from the Coroner’s Court with regards to the inquest into the death of James Hemi Higgins. I refer to the witness’s statement that an ambulance had not arrived “until about 45 minutes after the accident.” The log for April 16 shows the “111” call was received at 1501, our ambulance responded at 1503, and was at the scene at 1505. We are aware of the anxiety felt by those awaiting the arrival of an ambulance but would state the above times are fact, verified by the control officer in Christchurch who also logged and monitored the times of call. Because of the seriousness of this statement we would appreciate these facts being made clear to your readers. — Yours, etc., BETTY R. HAWKINS, Chairman, Rangiora sub-centre, Order of St John. June 23, 1983.
