Boycott captain’s choice
NZPA London England cricket captain, Keith Fletcher, said yesterday that if he remained skipper for this year’s tests against India and Pakistan he would have the controversial opener, Geoff Boycott, in his team. Boycott would be his choice for the home series if he was among the runs, added Fletcher in a television interview. ' Boycott went home early from the recent tour of India and Sri Lanka because of ill health, and he returned on a note of controversy by play-
ing golf during part of a test j match. Fletcher said: “Geoff was | ill for some three weeks and , the best thing for him was to i go home. He had got runs! and played very well and we , missed him for the last two tests. “We thought it was wrong for him to go on the golf course during the test. If he j was fit enough to play golf; he was fit enough to come, and support us.” Asked if he would have' Boycott on tour again if he, had the option, Fletcher re-. plied: ‘Td like to duck that; question.”
