Youth killed near Hanmer
A Christchurch youth was killed when he was thrown from the back of a utility vehicle which rolled over oh State highway 7 about 6km south of the Hanmer Springs turn-off on Saturday afternoon. He was Philip John McCullough, aged 18, a part-time security officer, of 541 Manchester Street. The accident occurred about 4 p.m. Another young Christchurch man suffered serious injuries when the motor-cycle he was riding struck a sheep on State highway 7 about 2km west of Waipara at 6.45 p.m. yesterday. His condition, and that of his female pillion passenger, who is believed to have suffered moderate injuries, were unavailable last evening. Both were in their early 20s, but their names had not been released.
A young Avonside woman who was struck by a car on the Ferrymead bridge early yesterday morning was reported in a satisfactory condition in Christchurch Hospital last evening. Mandy Ann Taylor, aged 18, of 58 Retreat Road, suffered serious head and leg injuries in the accident.
