Only one Labour Party
The Registrar of Incorpor- • ated Societies, Mr E. A. , Gould, has refused to allow a | group of Christchurch people to register the name the , Labour Partv Incorporated “because the name is cur- , rently in use.” j Instead, the registrar has , told the group, which com- < prises 15 trade unionists and j a professional fund-raiser, , that it may register the ] name Social Democratic j Party of New Zealand, Inc. 1
The latter name had been submitted as a possible alternative to Labour Party. It is the second time that the registrar has invoked a 1981 amendment to the Incorporated Societies Act giving him power to refuse a name if' he thought it "undesirable.” Last week he told the Working Women’s Council, Incorporated, it would have to change its name because there was already a Working Women’s Council.
