Cannabis found in Octagon
PA Dunedin Two thriving cannabis plants were confiscated by the police last evening from a garden plot in the Octagon in the centre of Dunedin. A surprised Sergeant A. K. McMurtrie, acting on a tip from a member of the public, arrived at the Octagon soon aftter 9 p.m. to find the 60cm high plants flourishing among the shrubs and flowers. The plants were wrenched out and taken back to the police station, where they were identified as being cannabis by a drug-squad detective. Police said later that it was believed the plants had been transplanted to the Octagon gardens, probably on Saturday.
