Access to hospital
Sir, — It is with some consternation that I hear of what would seem to have been the North Canterbury Hospital Board’s complete lack of forethought in the provision of access to the new hospital building. Surely, all the discussion as to the legality of the bridge should have : taken place when the architects were first consulted. Until the public are told otherwise, we must assume this oversight to be a case of negligence. As it is the board’s intention to seek alteration of the law in order that- the bridge be legal, it is inevitable that the bridge will be erected; and in my opinion this will complete the “deflowering” of one of Christchurch’s more attractive areas. I feel it essential that the public be informed who will actually use the bridge as the term “essential services” is too vague and before we know what has happened we will find even doctors and board members using the bridge. — Yours, etc.,
