South retains shooting title
The South Island retained its title with a convincing 25-point win in the inter-is-land smallbore rifle-shooting contest at the Burnett range on Saturday. South had established a 10-point lead after the 50 yard range and its 20 shooters reaffirmed their superiority on the 100 yard range to increase the advantage to 25 points. The winning total of 7800 by South was an improvement of 44 points on its score on the same ra,nge two years ago when North won by 11 points. However, North did provide the top shooter. George Clapperton (Manawatu) dropped only three points from 40 shots for a creditable 397. Jim McAra (Christchurch) topped South’s scoring with 395.
