Calpurnicus impressive
PA Auckland Calpurnicus showed that he was in the right condition to continue his good run of form when he galloped 1600 m impressively at Takanini yesterday. AU work took place on the msiue of the No. 1 grass, which was easy early but cut out as the session progressed. Calpurnicus. which worked early distanced Zambesi In Imln 44.45ec, the last 1200 m in Imin 19.2 sec and the final 800 m in 53.8 sec. The chestnut appears to have done everything right since his promotion to first at Ruakaka and has to be one of the hardest to beat in the President’s Handicap at Ellerslie on Saturday. Springtide did well to run 1200 m in Imln 18sec, the final 600 m in 39.45ec late in the session.
Silver Tower, which worked when the track had cut up, impressed with 1600 m in Imln 48.4 sec, the last 1000 m in Imln 7.6 sec, and 600 m in 40.8 sec. His
stablemate and race rival in the President’s Handicap, Lovestruck, took Imin 7sec for his 1000 m. Perlistic ran a smart trial for the Great Northern Champagne Stakes when sprinting 1000 m in Imin 3.4 sec, the final 600 m in 38.6 sec. Herodes led Rubicon at the end of 1200 m in Imin 19.4 sec, the last 600 m in 40.6 sec. Tigei Jones and Adam, juvenile candidates for Saturday, ran 1000 m in Imin 3sec. the last 600 m in 38.6 sec, with Tiger Jones in front.
Libby, the half-sister by Sobig, to Prancer, easily beat Kirsch over 800 m in 53.65ec. Libby will make her debut in the Victoria Handicap on Saturday. The Easter Handicap acceptor, Communique, sprinted 1200 m in Imin 19sec. the last 600 m in a smart 38.6 sec.
Boyang was sent over 1200 m, which he completed in Imin 23.65ec the final 600 m in 41sec.
